Difficulty: easy

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs of beef
  • Classic Marinade (for ~2 lbs of beef):
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2½ tbsp sugar (or 2 tbsp honey)
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped green onions
  • 1 tbsp grated Asian pear (or apple) — helps tenderize and sweeten
  • 1 tbsp mirin (optional, for gloss and depth)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds

Directions

  1. Preparation:
  2. • Marinate for at least 1–2 hours, or overnight for maximum flavor.
  3. • Stir-fry in a hot pan or grill quickly in small batches to avoid steaming.
  4. • Sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped scallions before serving.
  5. Serving Tip:
  6. Serve sizzling in a shallow platter or small cast-iron pan.
  7. Add a small bowl of steamed rice or lettuce wraps nearby.
  8. This is typically one of the most popular dishes — make sure it’s near the center of your buffet.

Notes

  • NOTE: Tokyo Central has a Bulgogi Sauce that is easy to use here instead
