Beef with Broccoli

This is such an easy and delicious recipe! This is the same sauce from my favorite Mongolian Beef recipe. If you buy the thin sliced Beef Ribeye Shabu from your local Asian market (like Tokyo Central), this recipe is so quick and easy – takes about 20 minutes.

Difficulty: easy

Ingredients

  • ½ pound thin sliced beef
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 Tablespoon minced ginger (1 Cube)
  • 1 Tablespoon minced garlic (1 Cube)
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 small heads of broccoli (1.2 lbs – you will net about 0.8 lbs after removing stalk)
  • 1 Tablespoon minced garlic
  • Cornstarch and Water

Directions

  1. Make the sauce
  2. Brown the garlic and ginger in the oil for about 1 minute.
  3. Add the soy sauce, water, and brown sugar.
  4. Bring to a boil and then simmer at a low boil for 10 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Cook the Beef
  6. Slice the thin cut beef in half and separate the pieces with your hands.
  7. Stir fry the beef for about 2 minutes and remove from heat.
  8. Cook the Broccoli
  9. Cut the broccoli head
  10. Stir fry the broccoli with garlic until just tender – don’t overcook as they will cook more in the final step
  11. Mix and Thicken
  12. Add all the ingredients together and heat until thickened – no more than 2 minutes.
  13. Add cornstarch as needed to thicken.

Notes

  • Beef – ½ pound is $5.00 ($10 per pound on sale)
  • Broccoli – about $1.29 per pound
